Innocence to experience
Blake was tuned to the huge social and political forces of the late 18th century. This can be seen in Blake's poem ââ¬ËThe Tyger' as he uses two symbols of revolution; French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution which both happened in the 18th century! The title ââ¬ËThe Tyger' is a symbol which was used in 18th century newspapers, similar to Blake's symbolic description of the French Reign of Terror. The ââ¬ËTimes' newspaper talked about the Reign of Terror as a Tyger: ââ¬Å"a tiger stalking the streets of Parisâ⬠. This ââ¬ËTyger' was used to symbolize the power, machinery, evil, violence and energy of the revolutions going on at this time. The description ââ¬ËTyger Tyger burning bright' is a pun because ââ¬Ëburning' could be seen to represent destructiveness whilst ââ¬Ëbright' is a deep, powerful word for revolution. In the third line ââ¬ËWhat immortal hand or eye, Could frame thy fearful symmetry?' which has a questioning tone, means that Blake is awestruck on what kind of God would want or allow the French Revolution. In the second verse which talks about Satan's energy, it starts with a questioning tone about heaven or hell ââ¬Ëdeeps or skies'. The question ââ¬ËBurnt the fire of thine eyes' is addressed towards Lucifer (the Devil). Verse two and three shows the imagery of the industrial revolution ââ¬ËIn what furnace was thy brain'. Blake says God is a blacksmith who wrestles with power and energy which is beneficial and at the same time destructive. In the fifth verse: ââ¬ËWhen the stars threw down their spears And water'd heaven with their tears: Did he smile his work to see? Did he who made the Lamb make thee?' This is saying that if there were only good and no evil, there would be no good because there would be no comparison to what is good and what's not. He basically says man needs a bit of ââ¬Ëlamb' (goodness, kindness, peace) and a bit of ââ¬ËTyger' (power, strength). Blake's poems don't just speak about his current times but can apply to nowadays. ââ¬ËThe Tyger' is a time symbol of revolution because it can relate to modern society: huge powerful machines such as the nuclear power station. It can relate to the revolution in his time; such as the French Revolution (1789) and the Industrial Revolution but can also relate to more modern revolution; such as the Russian Revolution (1917). Blake did not just dislike the church and revolution but also criticizes and explores the effects of a culture governed by commerce. This can be seen in the poem ââ¬ËLondon'. This poem talks about a London which is overpowered by commerce, government and religion. One of the main places where he enforces this in this poem is on line four ââ¬ËMarks of Weakness, marks of woe' which means the people (London) allow themselves to be controlled by commerce. The word ââ¬Ëmarks' is also repeated in this sentence twice and once earlier on; this is a politician's method to repeat the same word three times to enforce his subject. The phrase ââ¬Ëcharter'd street' in the first line suggests that every street is filled with commerce and instead of a list of freedoms; there is a list of restrictions. This word is also repeated on the second line; ââ¬ËNear where the charter'd Thames does flow' which is saying that every street and river is devoted to making money and even though the river is symbol of peace and freedom, it is a type of harnessed freedom. Blake doesn't just see London governed by commerce but a corrupt government and monarchy. In the second verse Blake says ââ¬ËThe mind-forg'd manacles' which is a metaphor meaning that people's minds are in chains and people mindlessly accept a monarchy, a corrupt government and the misery of every day existence because the church brain-washes people into not rebelling and to put up with their terrible lives. However, I think Blake's attacks of the church seem to be of the late 18th century because of his poems such as ââ¬ËChimney Sweeper', ââ¬ËLittle Black Boy' and ââ¬ËSick Rose'. In the chimney sweeper the children are made to think that no matter how dreadful the church is, in the after life you will be with god, and the children will be celebrating this. They are also brain washed from the church and the society of that time to make the children accept their lives as slaves. In the poem ââ¬ËLittle Black Boy', black people are indoctrinated from the church and the society to think that white is superior and that black is horrible thing to be and they should look up at the white people. A mother gets told this from the church and so therefore it is passed down the family. These are told to them because they believe the church and think the church is good so they put up with a bad life. This can also be shown in the poem ââ¬ËThe Sick Rose'. The name Rose is a metaphor for a flower, a name, love, passion, joy and England. It is saying that England is diseased and it's people are turning unhealthy. This can be shown because it is saying that the priest can't have sex so they try to stop others. On the other hand it is wrong in saying that attacks of the church seem to be of the late 18th century because there is still racism and social injustice. We are still indoctrinated but in many different ways by adverts, media, technology and government etc. Blake's poems in the Songs of innocence and Experience can relate to his time but also modern society. His psychic and emotional views about the society he describes are relevant to the 18th century, but they are also relevant today.

Course reflective learning evaluation Assignment
Course reflective learning evaluation - Assignment Example This is because police work involves critical social, legal, and political practices, all of which must promote the welfare of the public (Cordner 21). Managing police, therefore, becomes an undertaking that not only focuses on police power and authority, but also on the interests of the people served by the police. This unique feature of police departments isolates them from the usual organizational administration, where client segmentation is evident. This course highlights key lessons that begin with police work but end up accounting for every member in the society. As earlier mentioned, social, legal, and political factors influence police related practice. At the community level, the police have to establish functional relations with the public. The idea is to foster loyalty, trust, and reliability. On the same, the course presents a scenario where members of the society are defiant or lawbreakers. This puts police at the center of law-abiding citizens and lawbreakers. Ultimately, the police and police administrations must strategize on how to approach such situations. Legal factors further influence police operations in many different ways. The course highlights that legal provisions vary from one situation to another. This requires police and their administrators to be at par with all legal provisions and/or processes that affect their duties and responsibilities. It is important to remember that the course emphasizes on the benefits of law and police administration in the context of crime reduction and enhanced community welfare (Moore 122-123). Insights from the course also reveal that police and their administrators ought to be leaders and strategic managers. Effective and efficient policing is not an easy task. Successful police-community communication, community policing, intelligence operations, and problem solving is extremely difficult to realize in the absence of servant leadership, strategic management, and tactic

Some of my illustrations are vague and require more elaboration so as to make points in a clear and unequivocal manner. Even though I may be qualified for a job, someone may beat me to it because I do not present my skills well enough and miss the important details. It is my responsibility to ensure that whenever I present my skills, I must include the most relevant and provide sufficient details such that no questions are raised due to ambiguities created by me. Providing better evidence entail the use of better illustrations than I used initial. These examples must be related to the subject matter and explain all its relevant features. One perspective that is useful to assume is the viewpoint of the reader. After completion of the piece of work, I must look at it as the intended audience would have done. If I do so, I will be able to detect unconvincing parts and change them accordingly. In addition, I must go through the work upon completion to ensure that the language used is suitable and captures what is intended. Lastly, I can also focus on what is relevant so that time is not wasted on what is not needed as it will only serve to demonstrate a lack of keenness on my part. I can enhance my employability by stating clearly what my strong points are whenever I present myself for an employment opportunity. Since each job is unique in its requirements, I must align my qualifications and experience to match what the employer is looking to get from a particular job opportunity. Nature vs. Nurture Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Nature vs. Nurture - Research Paper Example This paper aims to critically assess different schools of thought regarding the issue of nature vs. nurture. Famous anthropologists of all time including Edward Wilson, Sherry Ortner etc. have provided their in-depth addresses regarding nature vs. nurture debate. These anthropologists have greatly provided three distinctive grounds of understanding the issue of nature vs. nurture. Before understanding the addresses of differing schools of thought, it is imperative to note that the analogy of any individual cannot be solely dependent upon one factor (Gass, 2007). Looking at the issue of nature vs. nurture, it can well state that the socio-biological school of thought claims that it is the nature which is more likely to dominate nurture. It is said because the genetic patterns of human beings are able to work favorably than with un-relative selection of genes. In other words, it can be said that association between the genetic relatives is more likely to be effective rather than being connected to strangers. This may come under the standing of nepotism. This concludes that a person may be angry because the family that he belongs have higher rate of anger-showing behavior. This may genetically get forwarded to kin selected in relative genetic structure. In many settings of human interaction, it has been noted that individuals may be able to undertake a strong decision because they believe that the family genes will allow transmission of same flexible behavior to upcoming generations. Similar patterns of needs and desire among human beings are noted when the genetic mapping of their cells is relative to each other. This has also been proven by science that cell generation may have equal characterization. However, this can also lead to another argument stating the weaknesses of a human to be transferred to upcoming generations (Fotaki, 2011). Secondly, a most powerful yet a very logical school of thought are considered to be feminist. It is because the nature and nu rture of babies would always be associated with women one way or the other. This is because they are the ones who will share the experiences forward by educating and training kin (Shankman, 2011). It will not be incorrect to state that the feminist school of thought has basically rejected old school of thought that have not considered the feminist view or cultural representation of women. Herein, it should be marked that the feminist view is based upon gender and not sex. It is because the phenomenon of gender is basically a statement role given to an individual as perceived in the culture. On the other hand, sex is a universal depicter. By understanding this, it rather becomes clear that nature and nurture is greatly affected by the way they are living as a gender in any society (LeVine, 2010). Women raise children under different settings having experiences of their representation. This is the major reason behind different behavior among people. The gender difference has made it q uite evident that nurture of individuals may be affected y large depending upon the environment. In this way, the feminist view rejects the concept of genetic linking of cells that makes upon behavior pattern theory. The anthropologists who look at the issue of nature vs. nurture in a more appropriate manner may categorize human experiences into two categories. Firstly, it is the mental domain of people where individuals are more likely to have an opinion about them. The

Effects ofSarbanes Oxley Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Effects ofSarbanes Oxley - Research Paper Example In 2001, Enron Corporation, a USA energy company situated in Houston, hit its investors immensely when it filed for bankruptcy as a result of major corporate accounting forgeries carried out by its senior management and its auditor. The bankruptcy resulted in an estimated loss of almost $11 billion for its shareholders and the World saw a company with almost $63 billion market capitalization, file for bankruptcy (the largest dissolution in US history at that time) (Sterling, 2002). The major reason of the collapse of Enron Corporation was because of its fabricating and dubious accounting shams. The senior management of Enron was actively involved in recording fake Revenues within its accounting records. The practice carried out at the company saw the senior management of the company record Revenues on the basis of the present value of net future cash flows. This resulted in phony accounting treatment and misleading reports which was needed to match profits and cash in order to satisf y the shareholders. The company saw its stock price of $90 in the year 2000 fall to a meager $1 per share by the end of November 2001 (Rapoport et al, 2009; Sterling, 2002). This huge calamity saw the initiation of several new legislations including the Sarbanes Oxley Act, which was brought into existence in order improve the accuracy and the reliability of the financial statements and to provide a transparent picture to the shareholders (Rapoport et al, 2009). The legislation was passed by the US Congress in 2002 with a special focus of resuscitating investor confidence in corporations and others serving the capital markets. The title of the act clearly states its purpose. According to the title, SOX is ââ¬Å"an act to protect investors by improving the accuracy and reliability of corporate disclosures made pursuant to the securities laws, and for other purposes.â⬠(Golden et al, 2006) The act is named after US Senator Paul Sarbanes and US Representative Michael Oxley. The le gislation was put forwards in order to provide a stringent role towards any unscrupulous act. The act carried severe punitive measures against the wrongdoers and it provided increased powers to both the top management and the auditors. The act also enhanced its oversight role of the board of directors. The Act was introduced to look after several issues such as scrutinizing the Auditors, Directorsââ¬â¢ and the top managementââ¬â¢s roles. The act helped in reducing the conflict of interest between the shareholders, auditors, directors and the top management. Before its promulgation, auditors were self-regulated and were not answerable to any legislative or accounting body. Following the launch of the act, the Sarbanes Oxley legislation acted as a supervisory body which ensured that transparency was carried out while auditing the financial statements of a company. The Sarbanes Oxley act helped in overcoming the transparency issue. A research carried out by Stefan Arping and Zach arias Sautner concluded that the act helped in improving transparency. The research was carried out over a few US firms that were comparable on the basis of their operations (Arping & Sautner, 2010). The Section 404 of the act has also been under the limelight for quite some time now. The Section 404 requires companies to produce an Internal Control Report reporting over the adequacy of the internal controls and the financial reporting

Economics of International Trade Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Economics of International Trade - Essay Example The sale of the imported goods from the developing countries was high that most of the manufacturing companies lowered the wages for their workers. Most of the manufacturing companies were experiencing difficulty in trade because of the low sale of the manufactured goods. That is the export level was much lower compared to the exports. Most of these companies began hiring people that were not trained and other unskilled labor. Other factors that affected international trade in the United States is the rise in inequality due to the skill differentials. The international trade differences are what led to the rise in inequality in the payment of wages and employment in general (Ebenstein , Harrison à McMillan & Phillips p. 3). The countries that had low income wages were producing more manufactured products compared to the manufacturing countries that based their labor on skilled workers. This is because most of the manufacturing countries with low wages had more employees and could manufacture more goods compared to the latter. History has recorded that the rise and the fall of the income trends have been affected by the rise and fall of the international trade. As most of the manufactured goods come from the developing countries, trade seems to have favored the developing countries. For instance, due to the fact that the developing countries export most of the manufactured products thus has trade favored these countries. The fact that has led to inequality is because of the employment in these countries. Because the export many products, they also employ many employees compared to the other countries. This has in turn increased the inequality in trade in the international market. The changes in the payment of wages have also influenced the pricing of the good in the international market. As a result, the changes in the wages have also become a contributing factor in inequality in the international trade. It is true that the

To what degree did Buddhism provide a basis for cultural exchange and Essay
To what degree did Buddhism provide a basis for cultural exchange and trade along the Silk Road - Essay Example On the other hand, the Silk Road, also known as the Silk Route, is comprised of a progression of cultural and trade conduction routes that extend about 4,000 miles (Whitfield 2004, p. 23). It got its name from the Chinese silk trade that was conducted along it from the 206 BC era of the Han Dynasty and greatly contributed to the civilization and development of China, Arabia, Europe, Persia and the Indian subcontinent. Silk was the main item of trade but, inadvertently, different cultures, philosophies and religions interacted as economic and political exchanges took place between different civilizations. The diversity of the cultures that interacted on the Silk Road is evident in the manner in which it linked China, India, Europe and the Middle East and facilitated Buddhismââ¬â¢s transmission to China from India and, consequently, Japan and Korea. Buddhist missionaries, travelers and merchants carried along their religious convictions, values and beliefs to distant territories, at tracting converts along the way. This paper will discuss the degree to which Buddhism provided a basis for cultural exchange and trade along the Silk Road. ... The roads and bridges may have had an underlying administrative and military objective, but they also opened up trade and encouraged exchanges between many diverse communities. The Silk Road was among the roads and routes built to expand the scope of trade and enhance its security, covering most of Eurasia and the northern part of Africa. With the Han Empire maintaining order in China and providing access to western markets and Bactria, merchants from different backgrounds interacted in trade, promoting the spread of their cultures. Traders from different regions exchanged ideas and customs as they traversed the land in search and sale of commodities. Therefore, the Silk Road promoted more than commodity exchange and included culture as well. Buddhism, for example, spread from the Kushan kingdom to other parts of Asia (Hill 2009, p. 69). The degree to which Buddhism provided a basis for cultural exchange and trade along the Silk Road is manifested by the way the faith spread within a ll cities, towns and centers along the trade route. Among the great missionary faiths, the first that took advantage of the Silk Roadââ¬â¢s mobility was Buddhism, extending its reach beyond its indigenous grounds in the north eastern part of India within the first century BC. After Military conquests and trade, Buddhism is the next most notable factor that linked the regions of India, to Central Asia and the present-day Afghanistan and Pakistan as early as 206 BC upto the 8th century AD. The transnational link facilitated the establishment of a political empire by the Hephthalites, which covered the expanse from the northern Indian plains to Afghanistan. Politically, the empire

Kinesthetic Learning Essay Example for Free
Kinesthetic Learning Essay There are four types of learning styles which is visual, auditory, kinesthetic and reading and writing learners. Kinesthetic learning is also referred to as tactile learning, this learning style consists of the person carrying out actual physical activity in order to learn, instead of listening to a verbal lecture or watching a demonstration. The best learning style, according to the questionnaire and personal experience is the one that suits me the best. This style of learning requires more hands-on training so I am able to grasp the information faster than if I was to watch a demonstration. My preferred learning strategies are things such as physically participating in different things, such as whenever a doctor teaches his nurses about a new procedure, I always have to do the procedure on my own otherwise I probably wonââ¬â¢t end up learning. I enjoy doing hands-on work and experimenting and learn well when things are varied and donââ¬â¢t always stay the same. Itââ¬â¢s very difficult for me to focus on one thing, I tend to multi-task so I prioritize based on what is the most important and what is the least important, then complete the task. If I have a lot of work to do, I take short breaks and walk around so that I donââ¬â¢t become fidgety and can refocus when I sit back down. To compare my preferred learning styles versus the identified learning styles, there are a lot of similarities such as using all the senses to learning such as sight, touch, taste smell, hearing, also getting lecturers who give real-life examples, hands on approaches and such. I see my learning style as, learning from reality itself. You take real life approaches to everything especially learning, you try to think of a certain situation from different angles. There are a few changes, that I can possibly make to my learning abilities and things that can help me study a little better to keep me more focused. Something I can try would be making my notes on colored paper so that it is more appealing and will make me interested toward learning the material. Another idea would maybe even type out my notes on a computer. I remember, during my years in college in the chemistry lab, I would be so excited to go to the chemistry lab because I loved doing experiements and seeing all the chemicals and taking the test tubes and putting different chemicals and seeing the end result such as different fumes and changing colors and theà result of combining chemicals.
